Tuxedo Park Storybook
whole home renovation by Cattaneo Studios
The homeowners came to us early in the process, which is exactly how we like it. Getting in from the ground up means we can help shape the budget, timeline, and most importantly (second only to permits), the vision. This house was a Tudor Revival with a storybook silhouette. The owner’s request was a true weekend retreat: one that draws you back again and again.
We approached the design with restraint and intention. One of the great things about old houses is the singular use room. Those small intimate spaces that did a century of hard work. Room by room we filled them with color, texture, and always something unexpected. Every space was treated like its own little world—bright, layered, and personal.
We used SO much materiality here - with larger houses colors and patterns can go flat very quickly. It was important to me that each room leave you with its own feeling, so that walking through the house felt a bit like reading a winding novel. One of my favorite instances of this is walking through the expanse of the elegant and neutral large living room, to land just outside Florence in the Sunroom, paneled in a hand painted Italian Fresco mural.
In the end, the home (like all things) became a study in balance. Color and calm, intimacy and openness. Comfort in the expected and joy in the surprise.
Excited to share more of the design of this home soon! Stay tuned.
